American company Waymo has declared that its self-driving cabs will be available for hire on London's thoroughfares starting next year.

UK Capital Named as Pioneering European City for Autonomous Ride-Hailing.

The UK capital will become the inaugural European city to launch an self-driving taxi service, comparable with those currently familiar in multiple US cities and four other American locations employing Waymo's cutting-edge platform.

Complete Launch Anticipated After Regulatory Framework Is Enforced.

A more extensive deployment of autonomous taxis is projected in the UK after the new law comes completely into force in the latter part of 2027.

Waymo already has links to Britain after establishing its pioneering European technical center in Oxford in 2019.

It is additionally starting operations in Tokyo using JLR eco-friendly cars, marking its only other current operation outside the US.

“Our experience shows how to responsibly scale fully autonomous ride-hailing, and we are eager to extend the positive impacts of our systems to the UK,” remarked Tekedra Mawakana, noting that the innovation was “enhancing transport security and transportation more inclusive”.

Waymo launched its self-driving vehicles in 2020 and now states it has served over ten million passengers in the United States.

Despite some troubling incidents, Waymo stated that data showed that cars operated by humans were associated with accidents that hurt walkers significantly more frequently than its driverless fleet.
